SirValUse continuously supported the new development of a touch user interface for an Asian customer. The aim of the study was to discover usability problems, then to resolve them and to gather quantitative benchmarking data. This was done for the prototypes of the customer as well as for established competitors' mobile phones with the aim of reaching their usability standard or doing even better.
For this study we conducted 100 single interviews in our laboratories and gathered user problems, interaction paths, success rates and subjective opinions.
Based on these insights we were able to identify the most important usability problems and potential optimizations very early. Our customer could see in detail how his prototype performed in comparison to its competitors. From these results we provided specific recommendations which were put into practice by the UI and development teams. The result of the third iteration phase was a user interface concept which met and sometimes even surpassed the competition. Our customer was very satisfied with the results and glad to gain valid data which showed that they developed a competitive concept.
