Our client was interested in benchmarking his router equipment with 3 competitors' routers.
We developed a study design to simulate the situation at home, with included integrating an analogue and digital (ISDN) telephone.
4*20 participants were invited to our labs to set-up one of the routers, unaided in a 150 minutes out-of-the-box test. This included using the manuals, integrating 2 phones and a PC, making calls and configuring the router software.
During the tests, we collected qualitative data like usability problems, and quantitative data like completion rates without help, number of problems, and time needed.
After the study, we were able to provide to our client recommendations on package, cable & device design, manual layout, and configuration software.
