Expert reviews are usually conducted without any respondents; they are based entirely on the assessment of one or more experts. In case the goal consists of drawing up an exhaustive list of all usability problems related to a product, employing a team of experts has proven to be essential. If a product is geared towards user groups with a specific knowledge or a particular lifestyle, it can be appropriate to also conduct prior test sessions with 3 to 5 respondents as a vivid way of introducing the expert to the context of usage.

The expenditure of expert reviews depends entirely on the extent of the product that is to be evaluated and on the possible conduction of prior user tests. Short expert reviews that deal with less complex subjects can be delivered within 3 to 5 days.
