Eye Tracking

Tasks set
Measuring the eye movement allows us to register the order as well as the intensity applied by users in observing elements of an interface. Hence, we can draw more objective conclusions about processes of reception, attention and information. In combination with data collected by observation and during interviews, eye movement measurements substantiate the interpretation of user behaviour thus providing valuable clues as to the optimisation of content and design:

Method
Unlike the classical helmet camera, monitors with integrated infrared technology enable us to record the respondents' eye movements in a less intrusive and mostly "natural" test situation. Eye movements can be measured while participants work on individual pages as well as during searches and navigation tasks that cover several pages. As a means to achieve a more extensive interpretation of visual/eye courses, a qualitative post-interview is conducted in conjunction with the respondents in order to reflect upon their individual user behaviour. Moreover, these data are compared with data obtained through observation.

Process phase

Sample
The sample size varies depending on the test object:

Timing
Provided that eye movement measurements can be combined with user experience tests, the study will not exceed 3 to 4 weeks. The duration of the study can be reduced to 1.5 to 2 weeks if separate designs and pages are to be evaluated.
