B. Braun Melsungen is one of the leading manufacturers of medical products. As such B. Braun is not only bound to its own quality standards but also bound to follow DIN EN 60601-1-6 as well as IEC 62366 standards. Therefore a formative usability test was executed in which the current market version of Cyto-Set® as well as its several enhancements were tested.
Background
Cyto-Set® is a compact infusion system for a save and needle-free preparation and application of cytostatics. The connection system for infusion solutions is currently in further development.
Goal
The aim of the study was to detect if Cyto-Sets® enhancements provide a save usability and thus reduce the risk of contamination with the administered cytostatics for user.ProcedureTherefore a User Feedback Day with ten participants of the device’s target group (nurses and qualified medical employees, who administer cytostatics regularly) was executed. Four infusion solutions system prototypes were tested in 30-minutes sessions. During these sessions the main focus was the observation of how easily and without potential risk the participants can attach infusions to every connector. The B. Braun development team and the design agency monitored the sessions via monitor screen and a one-way mirror live. During the sessions and also in between GfK SirValUse and B. Braun discussed the study’s findings and generated suggestions for improvement.
